Ephesians 4:11-16 — 11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
God calls all of us to the work of ministry. Some of us He calls to equip the church for the work of ministry and the rest He calls to do the work of ministry. The purpose of the apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers is to be used by God to grow up the people of the church into maturity. He grows the body of Christ so that, through His Spirit, we will continually build ourselves up in love. None of us are more important to the body than anyone else. We are all needed.
We often see pastors and elders as doing the work of ministry but Paul teaches that it is the rest of the church that are doing the work of ministry. Do you see yourself in that way? What God calls you to, God will give you the grace and strength to accomplish for His glory. Even in this time of quarantine, He has called you to do the work of ministry. Ask Him to show you each day what that is. Ask Him to give you the grace and the strength to carry out where He calls you to do the work of ministry. Something to think about…
What area of ministry has God called me to? Do I consider myself in ministry?
